Spies in the Movies - T
Telefon (1977)
Charles Bronson, Lee Remick, Donald Pleasence
Directed by Don Siegel
from the Walter Wager novel
Fairly arresting spy story about a Russian KGB agent (Bronson) on assignment in America teamed with a double agent (Remick). Mission: Prevent a psychotic Stalinist from completing a truly deadly series of phone calls aimed at sabotaging U.S. installations all over the land. (Movies on TV)
Three Days of the Condor (1975)
Robert Redford, Faye Dunaway, Max von Sydow
Directed by Sydney Pollack
from the James Grady novel
Robert Redford, working in a CIA front, discovers all his associates murdered. He runs, pants, thinks, schemes, evades, and ultimately exposes an agency insider who has been plotting on the side. Disenchanted Redford walks into a newspaper to expose the whole thing. The film is a perfect contemporary example of an old studio formula approach to filmmaking. Basically a B movie, it has been elevated in form -- but not substance. (Variety)
